In the Palas Basin case study, the objective is to develop a watershed model for the Palas Basin in Turkey. With this model, we would like to determine water and pollutant transport to a playa lake in the basin (Tuzla or Palas Lake) which collects surface and groundwater generated in the basin and develop water management strategies for reducing the negative impacts associated with agricultural activities. Palas Basin is an agricultural basin, therefore we focus on non-point source pollution from agricultural areas and develop water management strategies for reducing the negative impacts associated with agricultural activities. With this case study, we will simulate the groundwater component of the hydrologic system in the Palas Basin, represent the linkage between surface water and groundwater in the Palas Basin and understand the relationships between water management practices and water and pollutant transport mechanisms.
